The COVID DIARIES

The Covid Diaries is an open source music/documentary project i devised during lockdown as a sort of slice of life experience focused on tracking the development of life for individuals during quarantine all over the world. It started with me calling 10 people, every week, with a simple set of questions…

I’d record the call with a mic pointed at the phone on speaker, then score the recording, do that 10 times every week and start again the next week. The repetition of this process created this beautiful and long series of “primary source documents” detailing someone’s real lived experience in their own words, with a little music to help make it nicer to listen too, and that attempts to match the speakers energy.

As time went on a few friends - watson moon, robthesoundbank & max williams - started calling people too, expanding the scope of the project with new and diverse perspectives.

The final result is presented in multiple languages, represents perspectives from all over the world, and lasts roughly the first 6-9 months of the quarantine experience. Translations have been provided to english whenever possible.
